Flying Too High

by Kerry Greenwood

A Phryne Fisher Mystery. Book 2 in fact.

Because this series has been made into a tv show to be shown on ABC sometime this year, and because I have met the author and know her partner reasonably well, and because some of our mutual friends read these as soon as she writes them, I figured I should probably give them a go. I own a bunch of other Greenwood novels but haven't read a Fisher until now.

It was entertaining. I wouldn't say there was much mystery to it but the main character is very bold and unconventional and always gets her way. And rich enough to afford indulgent things. There is a lot of talk of food and frocks and art and all things upper class and fashionable in 1920's Melbourne. It's an easy enough story in a period setting. And once I got into it, I got sucked into the descriptions of the life of the time.

There is a murder and a kidnapping and some incidental action involving a plane.

Now onto the next borrowed book in the series. I still need to find the first in the series since that is sure to be in the tv production.

I have them all. partly they are fun. partly they are pleasantly historical. Partly one just simply wants to BE Phryne

There is plenty of history and period flavour. But yes, Phryne just oozes confidence. There is never a doubt or a worry. At least in the two I've read so far. It would be good to be without fear and uncertainty. And complete financial security.
